The 3rd Annual FreeCo Go Texan BBQ Cook-Off will take place April 26 & 27, 2024 at the W.L. Moody Fairgrounds in Fairfield, Texas.
Freestone County Go Texan is a nonprofit organization that operates under the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR).
Their purpose is to provide scholarships for all the schools in the county: Fairfield, Teague and Wortham, as well as local 4-H members and home/private schools within Freestone County.
The organization was formed in 1985. It has had its ups and downs.
The current board has had success that the organization has not seen before.
In 2022, the organization was fortunate enough to award $23,000 in scholarships, in addition to donating to other local nonprofits, lending a helping hand to a family in need, and adding on money to the seniors that participate in the local Livestock and Ag Fair projects.
Their biggest change has been to host their first annual BBQ Cook-Off, and it was a major success, due to the support of local businesses and the FreeCo Family.
They are now gearing up for their 3rd annual BBQ Cook-Off and hoping for another successful fundraiser.
HLSR has high standards and requirements that FreeCo Go Texan must meet in order to give one of “our” local kids a chance at the HLSR $20,000 scholarship.
“We all work very hard to make sure we give the Freestone County Youth as much as we can and open every door possible for them,” said the folks of FreeCo Go Texan.
The organization has big plans for the years to come. They participate in every local event, hosting cornhole, horseshoe and washer tournaments.
FreeCo Go Texan is now offering annual sponsorships, with a lot of perks and many options to choose from. “We would love to have your support and help in giving back to the youth of Freestone County.”
