The three-vehicle wreck on Monday afternoon, July 10, 2017 resulted in the driver who caused the wreck to be taken to Freestone Medical Center (FMC) with an injury to the back of the head.
In last week’s edition, “The Times” reported about a wreck that occurred around 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 84 and the exit ramp from I-45 Northbound near Jack in the Box of Fairfield, but did not have all the information at press time.
It has since learned that Freestone County Sheriff’s Office had received multiple calls about a tan/champagne colored car travelling east on Highway 84 near the Boyd Unit curve; and that it had possibly ran a few other vehicles off of the road.
“Two to three minutes after deputies were dispatched to locate the vehicle,” says Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, “another call came in about a wreck at the Hwy 84 and I-45 bridge. It turns out that it was the same vehicle. It just happened so quickly.”
Jimmy Boatwright of Oakwood, driving a 2003 tan/champagne colored Pontiac Sunfire, was headed East on Highway 84 on the bridge crossing Interstate 45 and failed to maintain a safe rate of speed.
Melinda Bosley of Fairfield, driving a white 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, was stopped at the red light in the eastbound lane at the intersection when Boatwright rear ended her vehicle, pushing the front of her SUV underneath the carriage of an 18-Wheeler that was exiting I-45 and turning westbound onto Highway 84 to cross the bridge.
The tractor-trailer, owned by V & L Trucking of Eagle Pass, was driven by Louis Espinoza.
Boatwright was struck in the back of the head by a loose car seat that was thrown forward during the impact, causing him to sustain a large knot on the back of the head. He was transported to FMC via ambulance.
Mrs. Bosley claimed no injuries, but was compelled by officers and EMTs to go to FMC to be checked out. She was taken by a family member; and checked out ok.
Espinoza sustained no injuries; and there was no damage to his vehicle. Once the accident was cleared, he was able to continue on his way; however, he is still filing a claim with the Accident Lawyers Philadelphia.
Boatwright was issued citations for failing to maintain a safe rate of speed and causing the accident.
Fairfield PD Officer Kristy Lawrence was the reporting officer for this incident.
Also responding to the scene were Fairfield EMS, and Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department.
