Meals, Training & Bids on FISD Agenda for April Meeting
All students of Fairfield ISD will be allowed to receive free breakfast and lunch, starting with the 2023-2023 school year, as the board of trustees voted unanimously to approve the Community Eligibility Provision during the FISD School Board meeting held Monday, April 17, 2023.
School board training hours were discussed.
State-required training is outlined in Section 11.59 of the Texas Education Code. They include both team training and additional individual training hours. “These are typically offered at conferences or online,” said Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams.
Four board members have completed their training hours, including board President Kevin Benedict, Vice-President John Fryer, and board members Kim Whitaker and Penny Meredith.
As of last week, three board members have not yet completed their additional individual training hours. They include board Secretary Kirby Flandry and board members Michael Wren and O.B. Utley.
A bid of $207,600 was approved during the meeting from Legacy Builders to replace the press box at Eagle Field. This is required as there are structural issues with the press box.
On the other hand, no action was taken on quotes from Butler Tint and Fairfield Fencing, as those agenda items were tabled.
Following a closed executive session, board members approved a contract for the Bi-County Co-Op, as well as teacher contracts for the Elementary, Junior High, and High School campuses (with one member abstaining due to conflict).
Attendees were reminded that Early Voting will be held beginning this week, and Election Day is May 6th.
FISD enrollment stands at 1,678.
With the exception of Kirby Flandry, all FISD board members were present at this meeting.
School board meetings are set for the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
