Labor Day weekend 2024 marks 80 consecutive years of the Smart Family Reunion in Freestone County.
The reunion began in 1944 when the family came together to celebrate eight men of the family who had served in and were returning from World War II. They decided then to continue the reunion every year. There were more than 100 people in attendance at this year’s reunion.
The reunion starts on Friday night when family members meet at Sam’s for a family meal.
Saturday is full of fun and fellowship, including a water slide for the kids and a corn hole tournament.
Things wrap up on Sunday with a family pot-luck dinner and more fun and fellowship.
