Funeral services for Shirley Wordes, 85, will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Bro. Marcus Sheffield will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Ms. Wordes passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Mexia.
She was born on October 24, 1938, in Renville, Minnesota, and moved to Iowa with her family in 1944. Shirley graduated from Shell Rock High School and later moved to Texas in 1961 to live with her uncle and aunt, Pete & Zell Hinders. She attended Cosmetology School in Victoria and worked as a hairdresser in Teague beginning in 1963 for Laura Tacker. After thirteen years, Shirley opened her own Beauty Shop and operated it until her retirement. She was a hairdresser for forty-eight years.
She is survived by one sister, Rosezell Adelmund; one brother, Dean Wordes; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; her sister-in-law, Charlene Whiteside; other relatives and friends including a special friend, Beth Beene.
Ms. Wordes was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings & Beulah Wordes; one brother, Dennis Wordes; her uncle and aunt, Pete & Zell Hinders; and her brother-in-law, Richard Adelmund.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Lord’s Community Storehouse, P.O. Box 384, Teague, TX 75860.
