An idea was sparked this summer during, of all things, a budget meeting at Fairfield City Hall.
It began with percentages and statistics (yawn) and ended with an anecdote about using a life-long dream of parachuting to stage a publicity stunt.
Although it may have sounded silly at first, the presenter explained that the idea met all the State’s requirements for using hotel/motel funds, as it had the expectation of bringing tourists to town, while at the same time promoting the local hotel/motel industry.
This story was followed by the statement that the State requires at least one-seventh of hotel/motel revenues collected by Texas cities to be spent on advertising and promotion — a requirement backed by research that shows, for every one dollar spent on advertising, eight dollars comes back to the community.

That grabbed our attention, and led to this effort of collecting ideas (and people) to promote OUR TOWN.
Some of these ideas may take money and patience to pull off. Others could cost nothing but an afternoon of effort.
We would like to start with a survey, and an invitation.
Whether you live here, work here, or just wish you did, we would like to have your input about OUR TOWN of Fairfield, Texas.
Fill out a survey online at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F9WSM7P
The survey has less than ten questions that can be completed during a coffee break.
Those who prefer a paper copy may pick one up at the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce office or the Fairfield Library.
If you would like to become part of the group to promote OUR TOWN, and plan activities that can bring more visitors (and dollars) to the area, be sure to include your name and contact information.
Surveys must be completed by Friday, November 9th.
