For the second time in less than a month, a train versus vehicle wreck at the intersection of Highway 14 and County Road 1001 in Wortham claims a life.
On Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2024, Angeline Gama, a 23-year-old Wortham woman, and two young female children, ages 3 and 6, were traveling on Highway 14 when they were struck by a Union Pacific Railway train.
The Honda Pilot they were traveling in rolled before coming to a stop in the upright position. The two young girls were care-flighted to Hillcrest Hospital with possible injuries. Unfortunately, the woman did not survive.
The investigation by Texas DPS is still ongoing.
The previous wreck took place on April 21, 2024, and resulted in the death of Wortham resident, Stephen Lawless.
This railroad intersection does not have crossing arms.
