Found in an old cedar chest that may have come from Teague, these quilting squares are embroidered with names that readers may recognize.
At least, Christie Harper of Dry Gulch Mercantile hopes someone will. “These belong with the family,” she says.
A few of the squares include a year; one reads 1932, the other 1933. This could signify a birth, an anniversary or maybe simply the year the quilting square was created.
The names include Margaret Davis, Grace Davis, Lucille Davis, Mildred Davis, Marie Thompson, Winona Nichols, Mrs. J.A. Rae, Mrs. M.F. Womble, and Mrs. D.D. Carroll (or maybe Arnold).
That last one is a bit hard to read.
Readers are encouraged to contact Christie at 214-803-0505 with information.
Or, stop by Dry Gulch Mercantile on the courthouse square in downtown Fairfield, Texas.
With your help, perhaps we can reunite these heirlooms with these quilting ladies’ descendants.
