Applications are now available for submission to Chapter 991, Palestine of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and Associates (AVVA) for their scholarship program. Five area students will be selected in April for scholarship grants of up to $1,000 each for studies during the 2020 Fall Semester at four-year universities and colleges, community and junior colleges, or trade schools. The applications can be downloaded from the VVA Chapter 991, Palestine web site at www.vva991palestinetx.org . At the web site, navigate from the Home page to “Applications” to “VVA 991 Ongoing Scholarship Applications.” The Application Form has additional information on obtaining a hard copy of the form.
  Each year the VVA/AVVA Chapter 991 Scholarship Program grants 4-6 scholarships of up to $1,000 for each of the fall and spring semesters. Since Chapter founding in 2007, over $100,000 has been awarded. The primary criterion for award is for the Applicant to be within the family of a Vietnam War or Vietnam War-era Veteran. The Veteran must currently be living in the Chapter 991 service area, or have been a resident while alive. This area is composed of Anderson, Cherokee, Freestone, Henderson, Houston, Leon, or Limestone Counties. Applicants must enroll in a four-year college or university, a junior or community college, or technical trade school with intent to pursue a bachelor degree, associate degree, or certificate of completion.
  The completed Application Form must be submitted no later than April 3, 2020 to be considered. Scholarships awards will be awarded at the regular April VVA/AVVA meeting.
