Sammie Faye Turner passed away February 14, 2018 at her home in Kirvin at the age of 68.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Mexia State Supported Living Center’s All Faiths Chapel with Chaplain Karen Hulsey and Rev. Tommy Lance officiating.
Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin, Texas.
Corey Current, Michael Carter, Keith Roberson, Mason Roberson, Blake Davis, Tucker Davis, Carter Davis and James Kitchens will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Hall and Rodney Latham.
Sammie was born June 16, 1949 in Fairfield, Texas to Sam and Omah Faye Lance Carter.
She graduated from Fairfield High School and received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas in Tyler.
She retired in August 2017 from the Mexia State Supported Living Center after 33 years of service as an Administrative Assistant.
Sammie was loving mother who lived her entire life for her children. She was an active participant and supporter of in any and everything that involved her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren.
One of the many things she enjoyed was keeping score for the local baseball and softball games, especially during tournaments.
Sammie was a longtime member of the Kirvin Baptist Church and served as a member of the Fairfield Chapter of the Eastern Star for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Omah Faye Carter; sister, Mary Adams; paternal grandparents, Alfred and Janet Carter; and maternal grandparents, Hoyet and Willie Lance.
Sammie is survived by her loving children, Tommy Roberson of Kirvin, Bubba Roberson and wife, Brandie of Dilly, TX, Janet Davis of Kirvin and Kelli Kitchens and husband, Randy of Mexia; brother, Fred Carter and wife, Debbie of Kirvin; sister, Christine Owsley and husband, John of Terrell; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; uncle, Rev. Thomas Lance; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
