Graveside services for Rose Boyd Butler, 99, will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck. Dr. Stan Hagadone and Rev. Tyrus Petty will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.


Rose Mildred McDonald Boyd Butler (99) of Teague, Texas passed away Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, 26 November, 2020 at her home on Mimosa Lane following a lengthy illness.

She married George Drayton Boyd Jr. on May 3rd, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX.  He passed away on October 28th, 1974.  She later married Wesley Marrell Butler on August 13th, 1977 in Wichita Falls, Texas; Wesley passed over on June 12th, 2007.

Surviving Rose are her sons George Drayton Boyd III of Richmond, Virginia and his husband Lewis Stephen Rice-Boyd and John Scott Boyd of Palestine, Texas and his wife Melody.  Rose is also survived by nephew Jay Cassell and wife Gay Weake, cousins James Fewell and Robert Fewell of Groesbeck, Jacksonville’s Shine McCord, David Mack McCord, and Williamses of Meridian MS, Schultzes of Plano and Goldbecks of California, and faithful friends and care givers:  Christine Mims, Londa Spates, Yvette Daniels, Betty Jo Chandler, Maria Amada and Othelene Dixon Raglin.

Rose was born March 31st, 1921 in Rusk, Texas the daughter of Julia Deckard and John Henry McDonald.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Eloise Cauthen.  Rose was educated in Rusk schools and graduated at the age of 16.  She attended Baylor University, where she then graduated at 20; upon graduation she began work as the youngest case manager at the Rusk State Hospital.

At the conclusion of WWII Rose and Drayton moved to Teague and operated a Western Auto store and later also the Discount Furniture and Toy store.  In December 1971 they moved the Western Auto to Fairfield, Texas and opened Boyd Plaza.

Rose was known for her flamboyant dress, long dangly earrings, bun, high heels and all her world travels; and was involved in many civic activities in Teague, including the PTA President, and being a Founding Member and future President of the Freestone County Country Club.  She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist church in Teague.
