Little Miss Fedora is back in the corral. This is the little calf that is an orphan, as her Momma died four days after she was born. We brought her up to the corral with the help of our vet and fed her, played with her, etc. She never was as friendly as Lucinda was when we raised her and Leroy in the corral. We decided to put Fedora in the Yearling Herd because it is a smaller herd than the other two herds. Fedora just never did join up with this herd. Of course, they weren’t very nice to her which could have played an important part in her life of being a loner. Just when we thought she had joined we found her all by herself in a pasture the rest of the herd was not in.
She was losing weight so we decided today that we needed to put her back in the corral and take care of her some more. The Colonel walked her up from the Horse Paddock into the hay pen then into the trap and finally the corral. She immediately started eating hay that was left over from the round-up we had this weekend. I don’t think she will ever really be a part of the herd, but she might at least trail along behind them. I worry that something might “get” her…like a coyote. She has already “talked” to one cow since she has been in the corral so maybe there is hope. She is very cute and not really a lot of trouble. She is also very small for her age.
I suppose sometimes there are calves and cows that just want to be alone. For safety sake that is not a very good idea but The Colonel will for sure keep a close watch on her like he does all the herds on the Red Oak Ranch.
