Why is it that the grass always looks greener, tastier and more of it on the opposite side of the pasture cows are standing in? Cows always want in another pasture and will try, as big as they are, to slip past us to get into the other pasture. The Colonel, in doing his checking of the herds, had trouble with one ole cow wanting in the Hay Meadow of all places! Not that the cow knows if it will just wait, the hay that comes off the field will be delivered to them soon. Even though it is hot and dry right now, winter will be coming and I, for one, am hoping that it will not be a cold, cold, wet winter.

This ole cow, however, watched as The Colonel got out of his truck, walked to the gate, opened it and then tried to beat him in. He said he had to beat the cow off the gate but that is just his way of talking. Everyone knows he treats the animals on this place like babies. He made it through the gate without letting her in but when he got home, he said he was going to sell her. Of course, that is not going to happen either!

They have all kinds of grass on this side of the Hay Meadow and most of the cows are big and fat. They just don’t like gates, lock or chains or gates, and they especially don’t like not being able to go where they want to; otherwise, why would they try to bust in to a field? Yep, I think it must be that the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence at the Red Oak Ranch!
