I was so proud of Sundance this past week. She has been running free most of the summer with only occasional times of being put up. But I figured on the 4th of July I should put her up so she wouldn’t get hurt because of fireworks going off and scaring her. I was afraid she might bolt through a fence or something. So, I went through her paddock to call her. She was running with the cows down on the front and I wasn’t quite sure where they were or if she was with them.
I stepped out of the gate, called her and here she came on a run! She ran straight for the stable and waited. I, however, was down the way at the paddock gate. I called her to come down there and she immediately turned and trotted down to where I was. I told her what a good girl she was to come when I called and she gave me one of those looks that said, “isn’t that what I am suppose to do?” Now usually when we put her up in the paddock she runs full speed for a while just to let us know she doesn’t want to be locked up. But this time, she went on down to her stable and stayed there for a little while. I put water in her tub for her while The Colonel checked the fences.
The next day she was still content to be put up so I left her in there for another day. The end of the second day the cows came up and she “talked” me into letting her out to run with them. She backed up and away so I could come through the gate and walked around the pasture gate when I opened it. She was on her best behavior! Sundance is a good addition to the animals at the Red Oak Ranch!
