After giving the Yearling Herd a bale of hay last week, we drove back down to their pasture and checked on the salt. Usually they come running when they see us around the feeder but this time they were more interested in the hay. They have just about cropped all the grass in their pastures they can. No salt was needed for them so we decided to look the herd over and count the new babies. This is the herd that Sundance runs with and more or less is in charge of. She is also the horse that is known for her taste in trucks.
I got out of the truck, the one she had already taken a slice of the paint off on the hood and she walked over. She walked over to the truck, not to me! She was starting to lower her head and I knew she was going to take another slice so I said, NO. She immediately stopped and I am thinking this horse understands English especially when spoken with emphasis! She backed up just a tiny bit and I am talking to her telling her what a great horse she is, etc. Then I noticed. She lowered her head and was going to take a slice not off the hood but the part of the truck beneath the grill. I called her name, said no and she turned, looked at me like she had no earthly idea what I was talking about. Then she went back to the herd.
My truck is not the only truck she has enjoyed a taste of. She took a slice of The Colonel’s truck and he didn’t like it one bit!! Then we had a man here who was working on a fence and she tried to get a bite of his truck but he saved it in time! Oh, the things the animals do at the Red Oak Ranch!
