A few weeks ago, life at the Red Oak changed all around but things are getting back to normal now. We were getting phone calls from well meaning people that we certainly appreciated. The phone calls were all about some cows being out. Well, now we don’t want that and since the first call was early in the morning, I was the one to roll out of bed and go looking. So, up and down the road I went. I didn’t find anything, no cows, no calves, no bulls! A very nice man came by the gate as we were on our way out again trying to find who was playing hide and seek.
The man told us he had seen the bull going down the road. It was so frustrating as we know our cows and they know us, and he wouldn’t come. I started thinking “Buffalo” we always say that word when we get upset with something they have done, as if they understand that it is not appreciated. We know they would do it again in a minute.
Well, we looked here and yonder and still no sign of a great big ole bull. People kept calling us, telling us where they last saw him. I would take off and he wouldn’t be there! Finally, the calls quit coming and I thought either he was dead, or he was still traveling down the road. I was having a conversation with The Colonel, and he said, “he’ll come back. The Colonel had no more said that and here was “ole SOS” marching straight down our driveway. He was home! He stayed away from the rest of the group as if he were embarrassed about what he had done. So, to all of you that called, those that got out and looked for him, thank you very, very much. While life is not exactly normal, it is getting there…that’s the Red Oak Ranch for you!!
