Saturday morning as we sat eating breakfast, I looked out the window and saw a buzzard sitting in a tree in the Personal Grove. As I kept looking, I saw there were a lot more buzzards out there in several trees and some flying around. These buzzards have gotten so aggressive they will, at times, even fly in to areas that are thick with trees. Next, we saw the Middle Herd rushing to the Grove but not going in. They stood for a while, went back to their grazing and suddenly turned and ran towards the Grove again, only once more not going in. Of course, breakfast was ruined, as we knew there was something going on in the Grove. The Colonel grabbed his shotgun and I got my 38 and out we went. The Beagles, MO and Tasha, were right with us as they are not afraid of hearing the noises made by guns.
As we walked over to the Grove, I saw a cow standing in a little area that was cleared but surrounded by briars and the trees. As I walked closer she moved out with the new baby calf she had had not long before all this started. The calf was keeping up with her even though he was very wobbly walking. She and the calf finally walked out of the Grove entirely and joined the herd, which is a good thing. The calf would have a lot more protection than just its mother could give it. He would have the whole herd protecting him now.
Later in the day, I saw the cow and her calf lying down in the pasture as if nothing exciting had happened so far that day! There are always exciting things happening at the Red Oak Ranch!
