The other day we were checking the herds and putting out salt. We saw Sundance was on the fence line in the Middle Pasture, and as I had carrots to give her we drove over to where she was. Of course, all the cows followed us over there, some of them out running the truck. The Colonel told me to go ahead and give her the carrots and visit with her while he pulled the cows out of that area. It didn’t exactly work at first!
I jumped out of the truck, Sundance started talking to me and most of the cows had stayed with me and were moving in for whatever I was going to give that horse! Thorp, the Bull of the Middle Herd, and Stoneshire, Bull Elect for the Middle Herd were watching me as if I was going to forget to give them something. I told them to go follow him, that all I had was carrots and they didn’t like carrots. They didn’t budge. So I just concentrated on Sundance and soon she nudged my arm while at the same time she was watching the herd. I turned to see what was going on and most of the cows had by this time followed The Colonel’s truck, Black Knight. Thorp and Stoneshire were virtually the only two that were still watching me.
Stoneshire turned and saw the cows running after The Colonel and he took off; Thorp suddenly did the same. They were both running as if they were going to miss out on something. This herd is very spoiled and every time we get in a truck they think we are coming to give them a treat. I looked at Sundance and I thought I saw a smile on her face! The happenings at Red Oak Ranch!
