The other day, just before breakfast, I looked out the kitchen windows and saw a wonderful sight. The Beagles; MO and Tasha were in the yard, close to the house, and were sound asleep. I really thought they would wake up and start barking because of the sight I had seen. There were a herd of deer walking close to the back yard fence. They were in no hurry, just looking over the fence, eating the grass that grew on the outside of the fence, as if they were not afraid of anything.
Somehow, MO and Tasha remained asleep while the deer walked, and ate, and studied what was in the yard, outside the yard, etc. I’m not real sure you call a bunch of deer a herd, but that is exactly what they looked like. There were twelve of them, ranging in size from a baby that actually looked like a cat when it ran across the pasture as they were making their way through the ranch and on to another pasture through the Personal Grove. The baby deer ran faster than any of them, and as I had never seen one, it was a cute picture.
I always have this fear of seeing deer and the next day finding one dead on the highway. But that didn’t happen this time. When MO and Tasha finally woke up I let them know what they had missed but they didn’t seem to mind at all. Usually when deer come by the ranch, the Beagles lose their mind and bark until the deer are completely out of the picture. Almost all animals are welcome at the Red Oak Ranch and there is nothing for them to fear here; not even the Beagles!
