Sometimes things happen at the Red Oak Ranch that are just plain unbelievable. I have written before that The Colonel has a call that the cows have been trained to come from wherever they are to where he is. He trained them with “cow candy” and to keep them in training he never issues the call without having the “candy” to give them. It is very helpful to be able to call them in for when the Vet comes to work them or if we are taking a trailer to Buffalo.
The Colonel also has a call for the Beagles which is helpful when we want to put them up, when we need to take them to the Vet or whatever. They have been trained also with doggie treats. However, sometimes the Beagles will break their training and will not come no matter what, especially if they are trailing something.
The other day, The Colonel called the Beagles and the cows came running up to the yard fence. The Beagles came also. The cows looked at The Colonel and started “mooing” at him. Well, I suppose no matter how well they are trained, cows or Beagles will do what they want when they want. Tonight, the Beagles would not come when he called and the cows didn’t show up either (which was a good thing). Tomorrow is another day at the Red Oak Ranch.
