We needed the rain and we got it. Then the rain was over, and it was cool bordering on cold. So, today was an absolutely beautiful day even if it was the day that Daylight Saving Time ended. There is something though that has happened that The Colonel and I have not seen in a long time if ever. The wasps are numerous and very aggressive. They fly into the windows and you can hear them as if they were “tapping” on the glass. The Colonel was going to go outside to the porch and drink a cup of hot tea until he saw them. He said he didn’t want to have to wave them away.

I don’t like wasps and never have. I used to just close my eyes when one came towards me. At the time I had never been stung by a wasp and people couldn’t understand why I was afraid of them. The truth is: I didn’t want to get stung by one! Simple as that. One day it happened that when I went out to get the mail, I raised my hand at the wrong time and one flew at me (I didn’t see it) hit my hand and when it did, it stung me. That was it. Still afraid of them, I knew I couldn’t hide in the house, so I just didn’t think about them.

Several years later I was stung again on the arm this time. Watching the wasps today I thought these are some bad dudes! But then I realized they really are just wimps. They know that winter is coming, and they are hurrying to do whatever it is they do in the winter time. I just know they are never seen in the winter. Imagine being afraid of winter coming on! Red Oak Ranch has a lot of wasps flying here and there but they are more afraid of winter than I am of them!
