“It’s been a long road to get here,” said auctioneer Clint Minchew as he talked about the challenges of hosting the County Fair, livestock shows and market sale, as the country continues to respond to a global pandemic.


“I truly appreciate the City, the Mayor and the [County Fair] Board for all for working so hard to make this happen for these kids this week,” said Minchew before leading the group in a heart-felt prayer “to be more understanding and have more love in our hearts.”

Pockets were deep, and the bidding fast and furious, as this year’s buyers broke several records during the annual Livestock Show Sale on Saturday, June 20, 2020.


When the dust settled, and the gavel hit for the last time, bids were tallied at $446,550 for the livestock sale, a 22% increase over last year.

With $113,327 in add-ons counted the same day, that put the total monies spent at $559,877 for the youth of Freestone County, Texas – quite an achievement for a County Fair that almost did not happen, at all.


Add-ons are still being accepted, so that grand total could go even higher.

GRAND CHAMPIONS

Buffalo Livestock Marketing purchased the Grand Champion Steer for a record $15,000 from exhibitor Annie Oakes of Freestone 4-H (pictured at top).

Kenna Coufal of Fairfield FFA selling her Grand Champion Swine for $6,000 to Freestone County Farm Bureau.


Freestone County Farm Bureau Insurance bought the Grand Champion Swine for $6,000 from exhibitor Kenna Coufal of Fairfield FFA.

Brookshire Brothers of Fairfield, Brookshire Brothers of Teague, Teague Chamber of Commerce, and Fairfield Lions Club joined together to acquire the Grand Champion Rabbits for $2,500 from exhibitor Bryson Myers of Faith Academy 4-H.
