Christmas starts out big this week in Freestone County, Texas.

First, the brick streets of downtown Wortham will host a Tree Lighting ceremony on Wednesday, December 1st at dark. Come out and join your neighbors, beginning at 6:00 p.m., and enjoy a Chili Supper, pictures with Santa Claus, and a Cookie Crawl.

Or, check out the Lighting of the Parks in Teague. The Booker T. Washington Park on Jefferson will start off at 6:30 p.m., then at 7:00 p.m. will be the lighting of the 8th Ave Park.

At dark, the lights will go on at the Aycock Memorial Park on Main Street, the B&RI Railroad Museum, and the historic Teague Hotel.

If you miss the first night, don’t worry. All three parks will be lit for the entire month of December.

Next, join downtown Fairfield for their annual Sip, Snack & Shop event on Thursday, December 2nd.

Enjoy a light repast from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. while shopping local and entering for a chance to win in the ‘Keep the CHEER HERE’ Holiday promotion.

This weekend will also be busy with the high spirits of Christmas fun.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th, will be Christmas In Teague at the 300 Block of Elm Street. Children of all ages can enjoy the Polar Express Train, Hay Rides ($2), pictures with Santa, Food Trucks, and more.

This event is sponsored by BRI Railroad Museum and Teague Christmas in the Parks.

Also, on Saturday, December 4th, the City of Fairfield will present An Hometown Christmas Celebration from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Freestone County Courthouse Square.

Vendors will be out in full force, offering food, games, products and fundraisers.

The Blue Santa Toy Drive will also be held during the event by the Fairfield Police Association.

The Fairfield event begins with the annual reading of the Christmas Story by Bettye Trask at 3:30 p.m.

The Peace, Love, Hope & Joy Parade will begin at 4:00 p.m. (Line up at 3:30 at the Elementary school). Joining the parade will be Miss Texas, Mallory Fuller, and the jolly old elf, Santa Claus!

Following the parade, Miss Texas will sign autographs, entertain the crowd with some fancy fiddle playing, and be presented a key to the city by Mayor Kenneth Hughes – all between 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.

From 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., visits with Santa Claus will offered, as well as Arts & Craft activities for the children.

The official Tree Lighting will be held at 6:15 p.m.

Also available will be a Petting Zoo from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., along with a Nativity Drama by River of Life Church. Performances will be held at 5:45 and 6:45 p.m.

–Story Time at Fairfield Library beginning at 10:00 a.m. Featured book is ‘How to Catch a Gingerbread Man,’ and will include dancing, craft and snack.

–TSAC presents ‘The Grand Ol’ Christmas Show’ featuring the Blue Water Highway Band. Performance at 4:00 p.m. at the Theatre of Teague High in Teague, Texas. Tickets available at Armadillo Emporium in Fairfield, Every Bloomin’ Thing in Teague, or online at trinitystarartscouncil.org

–Winter Wonderland – A Family Academic Night at Fairfield Intermediate. Hot cocoa and Holiday snacks, FREE Books, Reading and Math Games, Winter Crafts, Make & Take activities, and Science Experiments from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

THURS., DEC 9TH
–Teague annual Parade of Lights, hosted by the Teague Chamber of Commerce. Line up 5:30 p.m. at Elementary School; Parade begins at 6:00 p.m. Contact Teague Chamber for questions.

SAT., DEC 11TH
–Breakfast with Santa at the Teague Hotel from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pancakes and pictures.

–Breakfast with Santa at Lakeside United Methodist Church from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.  Church is located at 515 FM416, event is FREE.
–Dutch Oven Demo at Fairfield Lake State Park at 2:00 p.m. at the Volleyball Fields. Cooking and equipment demonstration with Uncle Mike of Uncle Mike’s Outdoor Kitchen.
–Community Outreach Program at Teague Public Library from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Kids will make Christmas cards / gifts for residents of Teague Nursing Home.
–Christmas in the Park at Fairfield Lake State Park from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy Christmas music, hot chocolate, Cookies, Hot wassail, Campfires, Crafts, Pictures with Santa, and a Hayride through the Tour of Lights. Free admission.

–Awards Banquet for Fairfield Chamber of Commerce at Twisted Vines Event Center in Fairfield. Cocktails at 5:30 p.m., Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per person. Theme for the evening will be the Roaring Twenties.
