About 39 years ago Randy Brodnax started an annual Christmas Sale for his hand thrown pottery in his back yard in Dallas. Being a true blood Cajun, he cooked “gator” gumbo over an open fire and served all of his customers.
Some of his students, from Cedar Valley College, entertained with live acoustic music. Then he asked his friends, Zeke & Marty, to join him selling their art works for the Christmas sale. This began the tradition that is continued today.
Several years followed as other artists were invited to join them, to exhibit in different places in Deep Ellum. Then they found the “Sons of Hermann Hall” at the same time the Son’s found them.
Hallelujah – they were home! The artists’ family grew in size and now use the whole building is used for the show. This year, the 39th year, there will be 42 professional artists, from 5 states, showing and selling their art works.
Our artists’ family includes potters, jewelers, painters, musical instruments, sculptors, glass blowers, wood workers, and fiber artists.
Randy still fires his “raku” pottery, for the entertainment of the patrons.
We continue the tradition of cooking “authentic Cajun gumbo” for the customers continues. But now the “magical gumbo” is created by Randy’s son, Ben and his wonderful wife, Maggie. Acoustic music takes place in the Sons of Hermann bar on Saturday & Sunday afternoons for the enjoyment of the shoppers.
During the Friday night opening, they provide complimentary valet parking with the best Event Valet Parking Management, “the best all Female Valets in the metroplex” from 5-9 pm. The Saturday hours are 10-6 and Sunday the show is open 10-5.
