Funeral services for Ralph L. “Pop” Hazen, Sr., 84, will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at noon at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Pastor Randy Strange will officiate, Interment will follow the services at Birdston Cemetery near Streetman.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hazen passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in New Albany, Indiana, while visiting family.
He was born in New Albany, Indiana on December 23, 1937, and grew up there. He entered into the U. S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and also spent time in Germany. After his service he returned to his home state, Indiana, but later moved back to Texas where he remained. He spent his last twelve years near Teague. Mr. Hazen was a “Jack of all trades. He worked as a welder most of his life, but also worked in other areas of construction and in security. “Pop”, as he was known, enjoyed fishing and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by eight children, Connie Doan & husband Danny of Palmyra, IN, Janie Hayes of Greenville, IN, DeWayne Joplin & wife Penny of Palestine, Thelma Sipes & husband William of Teague, Lisa Hazen of Michigan, Theresa Strange & husband Randy of New Albany, IN, Timmy Hazen of Indiana, and J. R. Hazen & wife Lacey of Teague; twenty-two grandchildren, Johnny, Melissa, Michael, Sammy, Angie, Tony, Lachrisha, Mindy, Regina, Geneva, Kimberly, Stephanie, Jessica, Denise, Jimmy, Derek, Katy, Haley, Cassie, Jodi, Harley, and Addison; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Hazen, Hershel Hines, and Ronald L. Hines; two sisters, Mamie Edwards and Ruby Hooten; numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Hazen was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Hazen; one son, Donald Joplin; one grandson, Brian Tanner Sipes; his mother, Edith Wilson; his father, Jesse Hazen; his maternal grandparents, George & Mamie Wilson; and two brothers, Eugene Hines and Albert Hines, Jr.
