September rainfall came in near a record low with only 0.48 inch. We had three days with measureable rainfall with a one-day greatest total of 0.31 inch on September 4. The previous record low for September was 0.17 inch in 2019. Our normal September rainfall is 2.89 inches.
Our total rainfall for the year stands at 35.85 inches, slightly above our normal of 35.71 inches through September. Our record wettest September was 7.89 inches in 1998.
Rainfall and temperatures for the summer were about normal. Our total rainfall for the summer was 9.16 inches with July being the wettest month with 4.92 inches. The September portion of summer was the driest with only 0.48 inch of rain. Normal rainfall for the three summer months (June, July and August) is 9.01 inches.
On the temperature side, September, normally our fourth hottest month of the year produced our hottest and coolest temperatures of the summer just five days apart. We had a high of 99 degrees on September 5 and a low of 61 degrees on September 10. Our normal high temperature for summer is 98 degrees.
Looking ahead to October:
October is normally our second wettest month of the year with a normal of 5.15 inches of rain. Our record wettest October was 14.36 inches in 2015 with a record dry October of 0.13 inch in 1995.
Temperatures tend to cool off somewhat in October. We have had frost in October in the past.
