Night at the Races will mark the 10th Anniversary of Trinity Star Arts Council’s presenting quality arts programs to schools and communities in Freestone County and the funding of college scholarships.

In 1850 Freestone County was the most populated and prosperous of a six-county region bordering the Trinity River in this area of Texas and Fairfield was known as the cultural center.  Trinity Star Arts Council, inc. was formed to restore the city’s prominent role as an arts’ center by presenting educational and cultural events schools and communities.

Serving the County since 2009, TSAC has awarded over $30,000 in college scholarships and presented numerous programs that have included: TCM host, Robert Osborne; Mary Wilson of the Supremes; Kenny Dorham Tribute; Jazz at the Depot;  Amanda McBroom, singer songwriter of The Rose;  Hank the Cowdog author, John Erickson; Piatigorsky Foundation concerts; Freda Payne; public art by internationally known Cuban-born artist, Rolando Diaz and Theatre de Marionette Puppetry Arts. During the past three years, over thirty-five hundred students have been entertained by ArtsPower, a national touring children’s theater company.

Produced by TSAC and under the direction of the well-known George Boyd, longtime director and stage manager, local talent performed to the delight of audiences in nine shows including:  Love Letters, Crowns, Beehive, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, All Hallowed, Arsenic and Old Lace, Ring of Fire, Always…Patsy Cline and The Cindy Walker Songbook.

TSAC has also provided funding for art exhibitions, culinary arts events, arts festivals, book authors and book signings, photography workshops, theater camp scholarships and a stipend for the Eagle Choir.

Upcoming programs for early 2019 season include Alley Cats Dueling Pianos and the national tour of Your Alien,  produced & directed by ArtsPower and presented to over twelve hundred intermediate school students.

Night at the Races is the major fundraiser for TSAC this year and they are are placing all bets for a win to continue its mission.  The event will take place on Nov. 10 at Twisted Vines. The celebration will be an evening of fun with friends, friendly wagering (with play money), food and fabulous prizes.  RUN FOR THE ARTS!
