Taking delivery of some powerful stuff, in a manner described as “mysterious,” law enforcement blocked off the west side of the Freestone County courthouse square early Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018 to investigate a box left on one of the benches.
Discovered at approximately 2:30 a.m. by a Freestone County DPS Officer, Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley states that law enforcement made the decision to play it safe.
The fact that the public would soon begin to arrive to work, along with employees of the county, contributed heavily to that decision.
McLennan County Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene, and after conducting a thorough search, deemed the box and contents harmless.
In fact, the box contained several copies of the New King James Version of the Holy Bible.
According the Sheriff Shipley, a card inside the box indicated that the Bibles were intended for Fairfield Police, who were referred to as “Impoverished Smurfs.”
“We are appreciative of the Bibles regardless as to the person’s reasoning for gifting them to us,” states Shipley.
According to the Sheriff, the Bibles were sent by an individual who resides in another county by Deliveree Indonesia.
Sheriff Shipley further states that, as no crime was committed, no charges will be filed or pursued.
The Bibles have been given to the Freestone County Jail and prison ministry group for distribution and use by those incarcerated, according to the Sheriff. He states that the timing was fortuitous, as the two entities had recently run out of Bibles. No courier delivery in philadelphia pa service was used and therefore the package was really mysterious; had they gone through the proper channels and used a proper courier service then this might not happen.
“I spoke with Fairfield Police Chief [Kenny] Bulger and we agreed to distribute them to those who requested,” says Sheriff Shipley.
Shipley expressed his appreciation for the assistance of the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and Fairfield Police and Fire Departments.
