The Wortham Bulldogs opened district play on the road against rival Frost and left with a shutout loss to the Polar Bears 24-0. The Bulldogs continue seeking their first win of the season; Wortham began the game without some key players on an already inexperienced offense, and the Polar Bears took advantage of some opportunities to score and did not allow the Bulldogs into scoring position.

Frost took the ball to open the game and used 12 players to travel 47 yards and burned almost eight minutes of the first quarter clock. The Polar Bears used the running of senior quarterback Edwin Alvarado, and he had five carries on the drive and passed to Connor Watson for the touchdown pass covering 10 yards on third and goal. Gabriel Abuid kicked the extra point, and the Frost Polar Bears had all the points they would need on the night.

The teams exchanged punts to close out the first quarter and the Bulldogs reached midfield before having to punt the ball away. Tyler Langley dropped back to punt and his kick pinned the Polar Bears back at their own nine-yard line. That Frost possession ended with a Trynen Cawthorn interception, and the Bulldogs took over at the Polar Bear 47.

Wortham reached the Polar Bear 20-yard line and turned the possession over on downs.

Cawthorn had a seven-yard run and the Polar Bears committed a personal foul and set the Bulldogs inside the Frost 30. Cawthorn passed to Darrius Credeur for a 13-yard gain that was short of the first down and the Frost offense returned to the field.

The Polar Bears went the 88 yards in only six plays, including three Alvarado completions for 69 yards, the final going for a 25-yard touchdown to Fabian Abundis. The extra point was scored and the Bear lead increased to 14-0 with just over four minutes remaining in the half.

After forcing a Wortham punt, the Bears put their third touchdown on the board on their first try in the second half. Moving 58 yards in five plays with a key pass completion to Brock Holland that covered 48 yards. Holland caught the nine-yard touchdown pass and the Polar Bears had a 21-0 lead midway through the third quarter.

Frost added a fourth quarter field goal from 30 yards out to complete the scoring at 24-0.

Wortham will return home on Friday night to take on the Bremond Tigers in the second game of district play.
