Patsy (Memaw) Lynn Thornton Emmons, 88, of Fairfield, Texas passed from this life early Tuesday morning December 19, 2023. She was born on December 12, 1935, in Temple, Texas to Henry A. Thornton and Delta Wolle Thornton. Her family moved to Fairfield around 1951 and prior to that they had lived in Stephenville, Texas. She married Herbert Dewitt Emmons on August 1, 1952. Patsy worked for the Freestone County Tax Office for 26 years, retiring on September 26, 1980. She loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and all of her family knew not to bother her while the Cowboys were playing on TV. In her earlier years she loved watching her two sons, Steve and Russell, at horse shows and FFA stock show events. Nothing pleased her more than to hear about her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s accomplishments. She also supported several local organizations in the Freestone County area.
She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Delta Thornton, infant son Stanley Bryce Emmons and husband Herbert Dewitt Emmons. Patsy is survived by her sons Steve Emmons and wife Cindy of Fairfield and Russell Emmons and wife Kim of Fairfield. Grandsons Bodie Emmons and wife Jayme of Fairfield, Corey Emmons and wife Deanna of Fairfield, Clay Emmons and wife Alexa of Fairfield and Marcus Emmons of Eustace. Granddaughter Kendell Sorrell and husband Jimmy of Fairfield. Eight great grandchildren. Brothers Henry Thornton of Athens and Jack Thornton and wife Liz of Fairfield.
At her request a graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Fairfield Cemetery with Bro. Ed Ridge officiating and song selections by Leslie Freeman.
