The Fairfield Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars elected a new slate of officers for the new service year which began in June 2020 and will end in May 2021. All new officers participated in the installation ceremony which was completed at the June meeting and was presided over by Henry Kitchens, a Vietnam veteran and a former VFW Post Commander.
The highlight of the proceedings came when the outgoing Commander, James Tyus, passed the gavel to the incoming Commander, Roger Brooke as Henry Kitchens looked on in approval. In completing his one year stint in office, Tyus thanked his officers for their service to veterans of the Freestone County area and to the community at large. While Brooke, in beginning his eighth term as Post Commander, pledged to lead the Post with the goal of exceeding the exceptionally good performance of the past year.
The Fairfield Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will continue to meet at Sam’s Restaurant on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM. Any veteran in the area is welcome to attend and bring a copy of his DD 214.
