The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, 9 Jan 2018, at Ryan’s Buffet in Waxahachie. The speaker was John David Smith, Director of the Waxahachie Parks and Recreation Dept. Smith is a graduate of Tarleton State University with a degree in Agriculture Education. He has been with the Waxahachie Parks and Recreation Dept for 18 years.
The speaker discussed the extensive population growth in the area along with the sixteen parks administered, including the Waxahachie Sports Complex, as well as the Senior Center, Chatauqua Auditorium and cemeteries.
He also discussed the city’s hike and bike trails including Waxahachie Creek Hike and Bike Trail which runs from Lion’s Park to Getzendaner Park and work on Little Creek Trail along with a projected trail connecting Waxahachie and Midlothian. A question and answer period followed the very interesting presentation.
NARFE Chap. 1191 covers Ellis, Navarro and adjacent parts of the surrounding counties. Membership in NARFE is open to all active and retired federal employees and their spouses, former federal employees, and former spouses who are entitled to a federal survivor annuity.
