Last week, members of the FISD Education Foundation took to the school halls to hand out some big checks to Fairfield teachers.
This marks the seventh round of grant applications solicited by the organization.
This year, seven teachers received a total sum of $17,768 to be used in their classrooms.
The Pre-K Team at Fairfield Elementary School is awarded the ‘Light Our Learning’ grant in the amount of $3,100. This grant will provide learning opportunities through collaboration and innovative hands-on activities using light table centers. These visual and spatial activities will focus on fine motor skill development. This grant will fund 4 light tables and various manipulatives.
The Reading Intervention Dyslexia group is awarded the ‘Sense’-ational Reading! A multisensory Dyslexia and Intervention Classroom! grant in the amount of $3,000. This grant will provide materials to activate multiple sensory pathways, utilizing visual, auditory, kinestheitc and tactile learning techniques.
Second Grade Team is awarded the ‘Alternative Classroom Seating’ grant in the amount of $2,100. This grant will provide 10 portable lap desks and 5 inflatable wobble cushions for each second grade classroom to increase attention and reach higher levels of student engagement.
The 3rd – 5th Grade Math Department is awarded the ‘This is your hands, feet, body and brain on Math!’ grant in the amount of $2,108. This grant will purchase 9 large math learning mats that have a variety of games and manipulatives. These mats will allow students to practice learning kinesthetically.
The 9 – 12 Grade Math Department is awarded the ‘NSpire to INSPIRE’ grant in the amount of $3,300. This grant will purchase 10 high tech, wireless calculators that allows teachers to share data and documents between students as well as quickly check what is working and what is going wrong on individual calculators. The students’ work will appear on the teachers computer to provide quick feedback and assessment opportunities.
Honors Geometry group is awarded ‘Construction in Geometry: Cornhole’ grant in the amount of $1,000. With this grant, students will apply the math learned throughout geometry to sketch blueprints, build a model and then construct 5 cornhole sets. Funds will also purchase bean bags for each set.
The Agriculture Mechanics group is awarded the ‘Baileigh Cold Cut Saw’ grant in the amount of $3,160. The grant will allow for the purchase of a cold cut saw to create metal projects for the school and community. Using advanced machinery and creating projects will move students closer to achieving an AWS – American Welding Society Certificate.
