Oscar Fred Whiteside passed away January 17th, 2022. He was born February 27th, 1942, in Freestone County. He joined the Army January 4th, 1960, until January 20th, 1963. He served three years in the Army, stationed in Alaska. After he got out of the Army he lived in Mesquite for several years, where he was employed at Mobile gas and worked as a plumber. He returned to Fairfield in 1968 and went to work for Brown & Root building the Big Brown Power Plant. After Big Brown was built, he worked there for Flur & TXU. He built and worked at Big Brown for 40 years. He was a hard worker to the core, but he was an even better Father, Brother, and Grandfather.
He is preceded in death by parents, William Oscar Whiteside and Vida Lancaster Whiteside, Brothers Maurice Whiteside & Glen Whiteside. Son Kenneth Warn Whiteside, Daughter Angela Kay Tibbit, Grandchild Sara Whiteside, Great Grandchildren Colton Whiteside and Triston Whiteside.
He is survived by Son William Leslie Whiteside, Brother Randy Whiteside, & Sister Joyce Guest. Grandchildren Jeff and Wife Tina Whiteside, Chad Whiteside, Jessie Whiteside, Kallista and Husband Lucas Chavers, Chance and Maddie Tibbit, Kimberly Whiteside, Levi Whiteside, and Kris Whiteside. As well as 8 Grandkids and 2 Great Grandkids.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 21, 2022, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bubba Rutherford officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Whiteside, Chad Whiteside, Weston Whiteside, Carson Whiteside, Jeff Whiteside, Lucas Chavers.
