Field demonstrations showing ways to avoid hay losses, as well as ryegrass and grassbur control, will highlight the O.D. Butler Forage Field Day scheduled May 19 at the Camp Cooley Ranch Division of Circle X Land & Cattle Company in Franklin.
The ranch is located at 4297 Camp Cooley Ranch Road.
Cost is $25 and can be paid the day of the event. Preregistration is requested for meal count by calling 979-828-4270.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
“This year’s field day should have something for everyone,” said Ed Schneider, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for Robertson County. “Concurrent sessions will cover avoiding expensive hay production losses, as well as getting a handle on ryegrass and grassbur control. We’ll also learn more about utilizing agricultural lime to correct acidic soils. There will also be several ag industry booths and door prizes.”
A catered roast beef lunch will be followed by a discussion on laws and regulations related to feral hog management and control. At the conclusion of the program, participants will go outdoors for demonstrations of hay equipment, as well as cutting, baling and raking.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for hay producers to see and compare equipment firsthand. This will also appeal to those interested in buying or trading in hay equipment in the near future.”
Three continuing education units will be awarded to Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators license holders.
