As our summer “Libraries Rock” Story Time program winds down, we want to take a chance to introduce you to our new staff member, Jennifer Kilkenny. Jennifer is now the smiling redhead that began greeting everyone who came to the library on June 12th. She not only greets you as you enter the main library, but she also helps get you signed into a computer, checks your books in and out, and does whatever she can to make your trip to the library both enjoyable and productive.
Jennifer and her husband, Lance, have three children, Jeremy (14), Ben (11), Ashley (married to an Army man currently stationed in Afghanistan), and one grandson, Troy. She is also a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Corsicana with Lance and Jeremy so that is a family affair. She and Lance are both 2nd Lieutenants, and Jeremy has recently passed the tests and qualifications to be an officer. Jennifer enjoys many things including, as she said, “all things craft,” and she also participates in three local theatre groups (Trinity Star Arts Council, Palestine Texas Theatre, and Corsicana). She loves learning, is curious about everything, and has already proven to be a valuable asset to the Fairfield Library. Next time you’re at the library give her a big smile back!
Other changes in people at the library were not visible in the day to day operations of the library but are important to the effectiveness of how your library functions. The death earlier this year of Fairfield Library Association Board President, Lyle Red, left an unexpected vacancy in his position and seat. Scott Mills was elected by the Board to be the new President, Tammy Gawryszewski moved to Vice President. Sid Ivy filled Mr. Red’s open position. With the successful renovation and re-Grand Opening of the library in 2017, Christine Manning felt that her job was done and she tendered her resignation from the board; she was subsequently replaced by Mary Jean Alford. Likewise, Gena Robinson, who has been the Board Treasurer for many years, resigned and Board member Carol Bradley became the new Treasurer. Gena’s vacancy was then filled by Claudette White. Although the leaving members have done a wonderful job and are missed, we look forward to working with the new members as we continue to improve and provide services to the Freestone County/City of Fairfield community.
If you are interested in being a candidate for future Board member participation, there is a link on the library website (below) under Services and Support that provides requirements, duties, and additional information regarding Board membership. At that link there is a form that you can complete if you want to be considered. Just click on “Support the Library.”
As always, remember to check out the Fairfield Library Facebook page every week for fun-filled photos of the weekly Story Time, and also visit our website for additional information and latest updates at www.fairfieldtxlibrary.org
