Preliminary, unofficial tabulations for City and School Board elections are in.
Fairfield and Teague have new mayors following Saturday’s City and School Elections.
Taking the seat as Fairfield Mayor is former Councilman, Place 5 Kenneth Hughes, who took 72% of the vote against opponent Luke Ward, Jr.
James Tyus won a place on Fairfield City Council, beating his opponent, Place 1 incumbent, Joe Lee Kirgan, Jr., by 25 votes.
Incumbent Randy Johnson, Place 2, retained his seat with 63% of the votes over opponent Bill Rogillio.
Outgoing Mayor Roy Hill says he is excited for the newly elected city officials. “I will be praying for them every day that they will be successful with what they do.”
Hill states that he will be available, as needed, to assist with an orderly transition.
In the Teague Council election, five candidates ran for the position of Mayor. Taking the coveted position will be James Monks, who garnered 58% of the votes.
New to the council is Jerry Ballew, who will take Place 1. He won by 8 votes over incumbent opponent, Melvin Mims.
Incumbent Marie Hertenberger (Place 3) will retain her seat, with 63 more votes than her write-in competitor, Dennis Cox.
Wortham City Council had three at large positions. Incumbent Jeff Carr will retain his seat. New to the council are Michael Busby and Susan Gibbs.
Mayor for the City of Streetman, Johnny Robinson, retained his seat with 62% of the vote over his opponent Billy Butler.
Both Streetman Commissioners, Heather Davis and Barbara Polk, ran unopposed, and therefore will keep their positions.
Fairfield ISD Board of Trustees President Blake Robinson chose not to run again for his position. His and Eric Chaver’s seats were up for election.
Taking the win for these two spots were Chavers and Kirby Capps Flandry.
Also running were Tony Leadbetter and Willie Dowell.
“We appreciate Tony Leadbetter and Willie Dowell for their willingness to serve the students and staff of Fairfield ISD,” says Superintendent Tony Price. “We wish to thank Blake Robinson for his long-term service as board member and president.”
Wortham ISD Board of Trustees had two places up for election. Both incumbents retained their seats: Billy Perez (Place 1) running unopposed, and Doug Miller (Place 2) who earned 65 votes to write-in candidate Waylon Gierisch’s 24 votes.
