City of Fairfield Council has chosen a new City Administrator, eight months after the termination of former City Administrator Jeff Looney.
Councilmen reviewed twenty-six applicants for the position, interviewed three finalists, and chose to hire Nathaniel (Nate) Smith during their special called meeting held on Tuesday, December 18th.
Randy Johnson, Councilman Place 2 and Mayor Pro-Tem, made the motion to hire Smith with a $75,000 annual salary. Councilman Place 3 – Keith Daniels seconded the motion.
During discussions, Councilman Place 4 – Landis Bayless stated that he didn’t think that the City should be hiring anyone until background checks were complete and all finalists are fully vetted.
When a vote was called, Councilman Place 1 – James Tyus abstained from voting, Councilman Bayless voted against, and Councilman Place 5 – Jason Bosley voted in favor, along with Councilmen Johnson and Daniels.
According to several councilmen, once the background check is completed, Smith will be given the job offer. If accepted, he should begin sometime after the first of the year.
Also at this meeting, Council approved for the Police Department to accept applications for the positions of Dispatcher and Police Officer.
Cooper Blackwell was approved to begin work in the Streets Department at $12 per hour and Rodney Warren in the Parks Department, also at $12 per hour.
Fairfield City Council meets each second and fourth Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
