March 2019 Hello Fairfield! Spring is finally here. I, for one, am looking forward to getting my yard under control. It just needs to stop raining on the weekends! With Spring coming, everyone’s thoughts turn to Easter and we have received many questions from residents concerning the Easter Eggstravaganza. We will not be having the Easter Eggstravaganza this year on Saturday, April 20 as a city-sponsored event. However, there are events planned for the downtown square on the Saturday before Easter. The Fairfield Fest will be running that day on the square, and the Market Days will be at the fairgrounds that weekend as well. Also, there may be other events planned in Fairfield during that day. Another springtime event that happens every year in Texas is the municipal elections. This year’s elections are on Saturday, May 4, and here are some dates that you may want to be aware of. First, early voting will take place at City Hall, 222 S. Mount St., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 30. These are extended hours for early voting. On Tuesday, April 23 through Monday, April 29, early voting will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall. Also, if one would like a request a ballot by mail that mailed request needs to be in by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, to the City Secretary at City Hall, 222 S. Mount St., Fairfield TX 75840, we use the best mailing shipping tubes service. Election Day is on Saturday, May 4 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall. The Fairfield Hospital District will also be holding an election at the same time, but not on the same ballot. Remember to bring ID with you when you vote. The last day to register to vote in the May 4 election is April 4. If you have not registered to vote, you can do so by going to the Freestone County voters’ registrar, or visit www.votetexas.gov to print off an application to mail to the registrar. If you can’t remember if your registration is active, visit votetexas.gov and click on the “Am I Registered?” link to check. As always, my door and phone is always open for questions, concerns, or complaints here at City Hall, or by calling 903-389-2633. You can also email me at nate.smith@fairfieldtexas.net.
