The Overton Mustangs took a 27-7 lead in the first quarter and held onto the lead throughout and eliminated the Wortham Bulldogs from playoff contention with a 41-14 Mustang win.
Wortham still had a mathematical shot at the playoffs.  They had to have a win and a Grapeland loss.  The Sandies coasted to a 53-14 win and would have eliminated the Bulldogs as well.
The highlights started on the second play from scrimmage for the Mustangs.  Joe Clark took the handoff and burst straight upfield for a 75-yard touchdown run.  Garret Long added the extra point and the Mustangs had a 7-0 lead.
The teams exchanged possessions and the Mustang drive ended at midfield on a missed fourth down.  Wortham took over on their 48-yard line and needed only one play to knot the score.  Senior quarterback Zach Jones dropped back to pass and threw over the top of the Mustang defense.  Cole Shivers made a spectacular catch over the defense and scored the touchdown.  Francisco Garcia added the extra point and the score was tied at 7-7.
It was only a matter of seconds for the Mustangs to retake the lead.  J.J. Washington received the kickoff and ran past the Bulldog coverage team for the 88-yard touchdown.  Long and his extra point were good and the Mustangs led 14-7.
Overton added a couple of scores before the end of the first quarter.  Jacob Marshall rushed up the middle on a quarterback keeper and the 42-yard score.  Marshall added a touchdown pass to Micholas Croteau before the quarter ended and Overton ended the quarter with a 27-7 lead.
The teams remained scoreless until the latter stages of the third quarter.  Overton used a 13 play, 82-yard drive to add to their lead.  Marshall faked the handoff and ran around the end of the line for the nine-yard touchdown and extended the lead to 33-7.
The Bulldogs took over at midfield after recovering the short kick.  Zach Jones read the option well and lumbered 47 yards inside the Mustang ten-yard line.  He then connected to Jayce Black for a nine-yard score and the Garcia extra point cut the lead to 33-14.
Overton added a final touchdown on a one yard plunge by lineman Brady Brown.  The Mustang defense added a safety near the end of the game to close the scoring at 41-14.
The Tenaha Tigers win the District 11-2A Division two title with Overton, Timpson, and Grapeland claiming the other three spots.
