Local Jeepers join fundraising efforts

A fuzzy, yellow celebrity made a stop last Thursday at Sam’s Original Restaurant in Fairfield, Texas.

Mr. Vanderquack was escorted by a convoy of Jeep owners from Lufkin.

He met up with local jeepers Brandy Purvis, Christel Lee, and LoriAnn Rice (not pictured) to continue his trek to Arlington.

Mr. Vanderquack’s journey began on September 3, 2021.

His mission: to raise money and awareness for St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital by visiting all 50 states via a Jeep convoy.

The brainchild of fellow jeeper, Lisa Unverzagt, the 20-inch giant plush duck has a GPS unit that can be tracked in real time, for anyone wanting to follow his travels.

Mr. Vanderquack’s luggage includes GPS charger as well as a travel passport that allows his escorts to record the city and Jeep name for those who participate in moving him.

Fellow jeepers can even add a small sticker to his luggage depicting his travels.

Expecting a few hundred volunteers at first, that would offer to help move Mr. Vanderquack, the convoy effort has turned into thousands with almost a hundred being added every couple of days to the private group on social media.

Over 650 cities, lined with Jeepers will be welcoming Mr. Vanderquack with open arms as he embarks on this adventure.

When the journey is all said and done, Mr. Vanderquack will have traveled over 50,000 miles, according to Lisa Unverzagt.  “He will be ready for some much needed rest and relaxation.  Which he will get after he goes to his forever home,” she said.

Once he returns from his travel, he will be raffled off and one person / family will have the honor of caring for Mr. V forever.

The additional monies raised from the raffle will go towards the goal of raising money for the kids and families at St. Jude.
