On August 2, more than 50 local students will perform Hansel and Gretel – free of charge – at the Fairfield High School Auditorium. The students are all part of an initiative through the Trinity Arts Council, which has partnered with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT).

As the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, MCT has been touring extensively for more than 50 years from Montana to Japan and will visit nearly 1,000 communities this year with up to 44 teams of tour actors/directors. A tour team will arrive at the Fairfield High School Auditorium for the week of July 28-August 2 with a set, lights, costumes, and props, everything it takes to put on a play. The team will then hold auditions to assign roles to 53 local students, who pre-registered through TSAC at the end of May. The show will be rehearsed throughout the week, and two free public performances will follow on Saturday, August 2nd, at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales, a twist on the traditional tales. Three enrichment workshops taught by the tour actors and directors will also be included in MCT’s residency in Fairfield.

MCT’s mission is the empowerment of children and adults through theatre education and performance to develop lifelong skills while enriching communities worldwide through live productions. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through participation in this unique, educational project.
