March flowed suit with January and February on above normal rainfall through the first quarter of the year. There were eight days with measurable rainfall for a total of 6.33 inches with a greatest one-day total of 1.96 inches on March 4 and March 21.
Normal rainfall for March is 4.43 inches. Our record wettest March over the past 26 years was 9.54 inches of rain in 2012. The driest March was 0.25 inch in 2011.
Rainfall total for the year now stands at 19.07 inches. Normal for the first quarter is 10.39 inches.
March ended the winter season with well above normal temperatures. High and low temperatures for the month were 85 degrees on March 27 and 45 degrees on March 6 respectively. Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil improved his record with his prediction of an early spring as we had only one freeze for the enter winter, a low of 32 degrees February 27.
We did, however, have some lows in the upper twenties back in November and the Autumn portion of December.
Looking ahead to April: Rain is in the forecast for the first weekend of April so it looks like showers will be continuing into the month. Normal rainfall for April is 3.05 inches. Our wettest April on record was 11.03 inches of rain in 2019. The driest April was 0.61 in 2001.
