Fairfield First United Methodist Church will be conducting Lenten Evening Prayer in the Manner of TAIZÉ on March 18th, at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary, 201 N. Mount Street, Fairfield, Texas.

The community is invited to come and experience this Sunday evening blessing and renewal through scripture, prayer, song, silence, meditation and candlelight. Rebecca Garrett Pace, Director of Worship at White Rock United Methodist Church, Dallas, TX, will serve as cantor.

Rebecca Garrett Pace has been singing, drumming and creating art since before she could walk and has been participating in Fellowship events for the last 27 years, beginning as a tiny tot at Lake Junaluska Music & Worship Arts Week with her mom. She holds a Master of Sacred Music degree from Perkins School of Theology at SMU, Dallas, TX, and a Bachelor of Music from Furman University in Greenville, SC. At White Rock UMC, Rebecca leads chancel choir, folk band and children’s worship arts. In addition, Ms. Pace leads TAIZÉ services throughout Dallas each month with a team of worship leaders from the Dallas area. Rebecca and her husband, Jeff, and two children reside in Allen, Texas.

TAIZÉ (pronounced, ‘Teh-ZAY’) prayer is a peaceful, meditative form of worship that originated in a small town near Burgundy, France, during world War II. It has grown every year since and now celebrates a large community of worshipers with over 100,000 visitors each year who travel from all over the world to study the Bible together and worship three times each day.

The tiny village in France also attracts thousands of young people (teens thru 30 somethings) per week (during summer and spring break) to TAIZÉ to work, farm, cook and pray together in community.

TAIZÉ prayer services are held in churches of all denominations, worldwide. As the simple songs are sung, the worship is filled with peaceful meditation, prayer, candles, scripture and music that penetrates one’s being.

The community is invited to come as you are and experience the calming and quieting of this elegantly simple, forty-five minute service in the spirit of TAIZÉ on Sunday, March 18 at 6 pm at FUMC.
