The Lorena Leopards built a 43-0 halftime lead and coasted to a win at Blackcat Field Friday night and won the outright District 8-4A Division II title.

The Leopards put points on the board via the defensive effort in the first moments of the game. Lorena recovered a fumble in the end zone on the Blackcat first possession for the early 7-0 lead.

A.J. Brem, A.J. Bell and Bradley Lina each scored touchdowns in the first half to build a big lead. Brem had a 17-yard run midway through the first quarter and Bell added a nine-yard run in the early moments of the second quarter. Lina had a nine-yard run and a touchdown pass, and the lead swelled to 29-0.

Brem had a second touchdown run on a two-yard score with 2:34 remaining in the first half and the lead was 43-0 at the half.

Lorena rested several players in the second half and the Leopards added two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass.

Mexia had a touchdown run late in the game on a one-yard run by Cooper and Ortiz kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired on the season for Mexia.

The Mexia Blackcats finish the season at 2-8 and 0-6 in district play. They join the Madisonville Mustangs and Salado Eagles that will miss the 2018 playoffs.
