Teague Team to Face Off Against Winnsboro on Friday
The Teague Lions took a second half lead and held on for a thrilling 29-27 win over the West Trojans at Crusader Stadium on the campus of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Lions move on to take on the Winnsboro Red Raiders at Kaufman High School on Friday night.
Teague would be in a dog fight all night and the Lions would make all the work pay off in the bi-district win. The Lions are as healthy as they have been all season and are working to make a playoff run.
Teague got on the board first on a Shamar Davis two-yard run to open the scoring. Perez added the extra point for the 7-0 lead with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter.
West answered quickly and would take a slim lead. Trojan quarterback Gus Crain found his receiver Cannon Cook for a 28-yard pass and run, and the Trojans were within a point. The conversion run was good, and the Trojans had an 8-7 lead with a minute to go in the quarter.
Into the second quarter, Davis put the Lions back in the lead. Davis punched in the final two yards of the drive and after the extra point was missed, the Lions had a 13-8 lead.
Teague scored on the third touchdown run of the night when Jaden Cole added a three-yard run. Davis added the conversion run the Lions had a double-digit lead at 21-8 with under five minutes remaining in the first half.
West added a pair of touchdown passes before retiring to the locker room. Aiden Green hauled in a 34-yard touchdown with just over a minute to go and Sawyer Tacker caught a three-yard touchdown as time expired. One of the extra points was no good and the teams were tied 21-21 at the half.
The teams had stellar defensive performances until Davis scored his third touchdown of the night on a four-yard touchdown run with just over a minute to go in the third quarter. Davis also had the conversion to build a 29-21 lead.
West did score before the game time expired, and the Teague defense held the Trojans out of the end zone to preserve the 29-27 win.
