The Teague Lions built a 21-7 halftime lead and had to hold on for their first win of the season with a 28-25 win at Lion Field Friday night.

While the other district opponents were in their district openers, the Lions were using their open week for a game.  They used their open date a bit earlier and this week paid off after a disappointing loss to Lorena.

Teague opened with a pair of first quarter touchdowns.  Senior quarterback Zach Satterwhite scored on a quarterback keeper from three yards out for an early 7-0 lead.  Gelico Green added a second score on an 18-yard run. Roberto Escobedo added both extra points.

The Hempstead Bobcats tried to keep pace and put a touchdown on the board with a 15-yard pass completion to close the gap to 14-7.

The Lions answered late in the first half with a Satterwhite connection to Daveon Dixon for a 44-yard score and a 21-7 halftime lead.

Hempstead put themselves back in the game early in the third quarter.  They scored on a 73- yard pass play and added a 54-yard run to put 12 points on the board and close the gap to 21-19.

In the final quarter, the Lions went up by more than a touchdown and that would be the difference in the game. Satterwhite tossed his third touchdown pass of the game, this one a 32-yard strike to Connor Smith and the lead grew to 28-19.

The Bobcats would add a late score, but it was not enough to deny the Teague Lion their first win of the season.

The win sets the Teague non-district record at 1-3.  They will host the Grandview Zebras in their district opener on Friday night.  Grandview lost a heartbreaker to the West Trojans 42-41.
