A wreck resulting in three injured patients occurred on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in Fairfield at about 5:00 p.m.
According to the official police report, McKenna Woods, driving a Silver Ford Edge, was travelling east on Highway 84, where she stopped to make a left hand turn into the soccer fields across from the Fairfield City Park. With her were two children, one boy and one girl.
Also travelling east behind Ms. Woods, was Kendal Utley, driving a black Chevy Tahoe. With her were two young males.
Mrs. Utley ran into the back end of Ms. Woods, causing the vehicle to be pushed into oncoming traffic, where she collided with a white Ford F-150, driven by Russell Feagins.
Ms. Woods was transported to Scott & White in Waco via life-flight.
The male child in Ms. Woods’ vehicle was also taken to Scott & White in Waco, via ambulance.
One of the male children in Mrs. Utley’s vehicle was transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas via life-flight.
Traffic was backed up in both directions for a while, as a helicopter was landed on the old softball field at the Fairgrounds.
As of Monday, September 24th, both children have been released and are doing well.
Ms. Woods is still in the hospital with a broken back. Her mother says she will not require surgery, but will be wearing a brace for some time while she heals.
Mrs. Utley, Mr. Feagins, and the other two children involved in the accident all walked away from the scene.
Responding to the wreck were Fairfield PD, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, Fairfield EMS, and life-flight helicopters.
