The courthouse square will be filled with live music and dancing throughout the day on October 1 starting at 11:00am at Fall Arts Fest! The event will present the awesome sights and sounds of CSO Lite, the Aggie Wranglers, vocals from TSAC’s “RING OF FIRE: The Music of Johnny Cash,” and Tin Top Road Bluegrass Band.
CSO Lite (an extension of Corsicana Swing Orchestra) will kick off the day’s events with its diverse instrumentals. Led by Jerry Ballew of Teague, the band is comprised of a mix of educators and professionals who simply enjoy creating music together. The group was first assembled over a decade ago by Jim Stubbs, former band director of Navarro College, and has included musicians from Fairfield and Teague, as well as from Corsicana. With their many talents, skills and love of music, they have revived sounds of the Big Band era, though their repertoire includes other music genres such as country, rock ‘n’ roll and Latin. Though they thoroughly enjoy making music together, their motto is, “We love our music, but for now we are keeping our day jobs!”
Aggie Wranglers, a volunteer exhibition couples dance team, will be performing at noon sharing their passion for dancing and their love of Texas A&M University. This self-funded group is run solely by students of A&M and has become one of the University’s most widely recognized student organizations, promoting Aggie spirit around the world. Their choreographed high-speed polka, Country/Western routines and Aggie-style jitterbug moves are full of energy and awesome to watch. When they are not performing, the Wranglers offer dance classes, teaching their dancing skills annually to over 3,000 students, faculty, staff and community members.
The featured band for the Fall Arts Fest is Fairfield’s own Tin Top Road Bluegrass Band (above), led by Jeff Harrison. This group will present instrumentals as well as providing accompaniment to vocals from TSAC’s recent production of “RING OF FIRE: The Music of Johnny Cash.” Their music will fill the afternoon with a wonderful variety of Country/Western and bluegrass music.
Other activities include “Hank the Cow Dog” author John R. Erickson, marionette shows, kids’ art, face-painters, balloon twisters, caricaturist, dedication of murals, art exhibits, scarecrow contest and several food trucks and vendors. Shops around the square, including Armadillo Emporium, The Shops at Peridot, Accessories, Etc., Brenda’s Closet, Dry Gulch Mercantile, In Thee Beginning and Kennedy’s Korner plan to be open and will offer refreshments and drawings.
This free event is presented by Trinity Star Arts Council, a local nonprofit organization, with major funding provided by the City of Fairfield and Texas Commission on the Arts.
