Lessie J. Roberts, 94, of the Lanely Community went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 5, 2020 in Palestine. She is now rejoicing in Beulah Land with her mother, father, four brothers and three sisters. Graveside services were held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Lake Chapel Cemetery with her son-in-law; Mr. Jodie Sanders officiating. Pallbearers were Jodie Lee Sanders, Jeremy L. Sanders, Taylor Mills, Nathan Roberts and Robert Thorn and Larry Barak.
Mrs. Roberts was born April 17, 1926 in Farmington, Missouri to parents Thomas A. and Mamie Maze Clark. She married Wilbur Roberts on September 21, 1946 in Farmington, MO Mr. and Mrs. Roberts had been Freestone County residents for fourteen years having relocated from Trinity, Texas. In her early years Mrs. Roberts was a seamstress and made many, many clothes. She was known for her quilting skills and made quilts for all of her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren very much. In Trinity she and Mr. Roberts were members of Calvary Baptist Church and locally First Baptist Church of Fairfield. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Wilbur Roberts; three children, Sue Sanders and husband Jodie of Lanely; John R. Roberts and wife Jo of Lovelady, TX; Mary Thorn and husband Bob of Nolensville, TN; eight grandchildren, Jodie Lee Sanders, Jill Mills, Jeremy Sanders, Nathan Roberts, Rachel Barak, Robert Thorn, Andrew Thorn and Elliott Thorn; numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
